Regalia

Regalia is a rarity of module. A Regalia module is a piece of a set, and a set's bonuses switch on only when its pieces are fitted next to each other. There are 12 sets and 44 pieces: eight sets of four and four sets of three.

A piece and its base module

A Regalia piece is not a separate kind of item. It is an ordinary module, its base module, that carries a Regalia identity. It keeps the base module's stats, shape, slot and ability. In the tooltip the piece's name sits above the module's name.

On top of the base module a piece has:

  • rolled modifiers, fixed for that piece;
  • linked bonuses of its own, which need other pieces of the same set;
  • its share in the set bonuses.

A Regalia piece never rolls modifiers from the ordinary pools. Two modules have more than one piece: the Auto-Cannon has three and the Structural Cargohold two. When such a module becomes Regalia, one of its pieces is picked at random.

Rolled modifiers

  • Every piece has a fixed list of modifiers, each with a range. When the piece is created, each one rolls a value inside its range, with every value equally likely.
  • Nothing else affects the roll: not quality, not breach tier, not salvage luck.
  • The roll is permanent. No consumable can reroll, add or remove modifiers on a Regalia piece.
  • The tooltip shows a rolled percentage with one decimal at most, and marks every Regalia modifier with the top tier badge, T4.
  • A turret stat rolled on a turret piece stays with that weapon. It is not applied to the whole ship. The same goes for missile stats on a launcher and mine stats on a mine deployer. Every other rolled modifier is ship-wide.
  • Quality is a separate roll. It scales the base module's own stats and the piece's rating, not the rolled Regalia modifiers.
  • Ports +1 or Ports +2 is a fixed line, not a range. It is how a piece gets its ports: Regalia rolls no ports otherwise, so a piece without that line is created with none.

Linking

The game calls an active set bonus "linked", and the tooltip heads each tier (2) Linked, (3) Linked and (4) Linked.

  • Only fitted pieces count. Pieces in the cargo hold or the stash do nothing.
  • Pieces must touch. Two pieces of the same set are linked when their shapes share an edge on the fitting grid. Touching at a corner does not count.
  • The base shape is what counts. A cell added to a piece by a Tek Cipher does not make a link.
  • Links chain. Three pieces in a row count as three, even though the first and the last do not touch.
  • One group per set. The count is the size of the set's largest connected group. Four pieces fitted as two separate pairs count as two.
  • Tiers add up. With three linked you have the two-piece and three-piece bonuses. With four you have all three.
  • No duplicates. The grid refuses a second copy of the same piece, so a set bonus always needs different pieces.
  • They need not be running. Linking looks only at where the pieces sit, not at whether a module is switched on, on cooldown or out of charges.
  • Several sets at once. Each set is counted separately, so one ship can run two different two-piece links.

On the fitting grid, the edges where two pieces of a set touch are highlighted.

Piece bonuses and set bonuses

  • A set bonus belongs to the set. The ship gets it once when enough pieces are linked.
  • A linked bonus belongs to one piece. The piece grants it only if that piece is itself part of the linked group, and the tier depends on the size of the group.
  • The two stack. A fully linked set gives its set bonuses plus every piece's own linked bonuses.
  • A piece fitted away from the others keeps its rolled modifiers and gives no linked bonus.
  • Set bonuses and linked bonuses are always ship-wide, turret stats included.
  • Some bonuses are effects that fire on a trigger, such as on a kill or at overheat. An effect with less than a 100% chance shows its chance.
  • Regalia is not exempt from the stacking penalty. Percentage bonuses to the same stat from Regalia and from the rest of the fit are ranked together. Flat bonuses, such as cargo capacity, add up in full.

What the game does not show

The tooltip prints a bonus tier only while it is active on the ship you are looking at. An inactive tier is drawn as a hatched bar with no text. A piece seen in the stash shows none of its linked bonuses, and a set's higher tiers stay hidden until you have linked that many pieces. The set pages on this wiki list all of them.

Getting Regalia

Regalia is not on a loot table by itself. Loot picks a module first and rolls its rarity afterwards.

  • Drops. Whenever loot rolls a module, the rarity can come up Regalia. If the module has a Regalia piece, it becomes that piece; if it has none, it becomes Prototype instead. This applies to NPC wrecks, boss wrecks, loot containers, beacon loot and merchant stock.
  • What raises the odds. A deeper breach tier, a tougher class of NPC with bosses by far the highest, the top tier of loot container, and the Regal breach mutator. Stratum 0 cannot drop Regalia.
  • Regalia blueprints. A blueprint can roll Regalia rarity. Every build from it makes that piece, rolling the modifier ranges at the time of the build.
  • The forge. A forge cell can carry a chance that an ordinary build comes out as the Artifact or Regalia version of the module.
  • TYCHE Catalyst. Used on a Normal module with no ports and no modifiers, it has a 25% chance to turn it into its Regalia or Artifact version and destroys it otherwise. See Consumables.
  • Trade with another player.

Identification

A dropped piece is unidentified. The tooltip shows only the base module, and the piece cannot be fitted, so it cannot link. Identifying costs ORE equal to 10% of the piece's rating. A piece built at the forge also comes out unidentified. One made with a TYCHE Catalyst is identified.

Changing a piece

Allowed What it does
Tek Ciphers Fill a port, if the piece has an empty one
JANUS Graft Adds one port to a piece that has none
CARDEA Portmender Moves the piece's empty ports
PTAH Crucible Rerolls the piece's quality

Everything else that changes modifiers refuses a Regalia piece, and a piece cannot be made Harmonic.

Trading and selling

A piece can be traded to another player in a hub, sold to a merchant or recycled for ORE, like any other module. The price follows the piece's own rating; being linked does not raise it.

Losing one

Regalia has no protection of its own. When the ship is lost, a fitted piece goes into the wreck unless it carries the safe cipher, Lucky Cigarettes, in one of its ports. A piece with no ports cannot hold a cipher, so only pieces created with ports, or given one by a JANUS Graft, can be protected while fitted. See Ship loss.

Build rating

A piece is rated at 1.75 times its base module, then scaled by quality. For the ship's build rating a linked piece counts for more: 2 times its base module with two linked, 2.25 times with three and 2.5 times with four.
