Ships

From Citadel Wiki
Early accessCitadel is still in development. Numbers and rules on this page can change between patches. Last checked October 2026.

A ship is a hull plus whatever is fitted to it. There are 20 hulls a captain can fly, all of them cruisers. A hull sets the shape of the fitting grid, the base armor, hull, heat and handling, and how much cargo is protected when the ship is lost.

Every hull has 24 cargo slots, 10 reactor control rods and 30 minutes of reactor fuel. See Cargo, Heat and Reactor fuel.

The starter ship

Every new captain is issued a Seraph at Faction quality, already fitted. If you are left without a hull in a hub, you are issued another. Faction quality means 15% less hull, armor and heat capacity, and Faction-quality gear is destroyed when the ship is lost: it never drops as loot. See Rarity and quality.

Building a hull

Hulls do not drop. A hull is built at the forge from its blueprint.

  • Where. In a hub. The blueprint goes on the hub's workbench and the materials come from the hub stash.
  • Cost. The recipe's materials and nothing else. A rarer blueprint needs more of them: Advanced 1.1 times, Prototype 1.2 times, Artifact 1.5 times.
  • Uses. Queuing a build spends one blueprint use. Hull blueprints have 3, 4 or 5.
  • Quality. Rolled when the build finishes, from the blueprint's research tier. Higher tiers move the odds from Flawed toward Superior, and Masterwork becomes possible from tier 3.
  • Rarity. Copied from the blueprint, which rolled its own rarity when it dropped.

Research

A blueprint starts at tier 1 and can be researched up to tier 5. Each step costs ORE up front: the hull's build rating times the current tier times 12.5%. Taking a hull blueprint from tier 1 to tier 5 costs 1.25 times the hull's build rating in ORE.

From the quartermaster

The two faction quartermasters stock hull blueprints for their own members, by rank, paid in Merits. Everything a quartermaster sells is faction issue: the blueprint cannot be researched, and the hull it builds is always Faction quality.
